The Trevi Fountain

If you’ve been looking at our photos, you’ll notice that we’ve been to the Trevi Fountain. However, when we initially went there, neither of us had coins, so we had to return.

A little background on the Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain is at the junction of three roads (tre vie) which marks the end of one of the aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome.

So why do we throw coins into it?

The legend is that if you throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you will return to Rome.

This legend actually created by a Roman travel agent, who used to pitch the idea as a means to get people to book their return trip to Rome.

The myth says to throw the coins with your right hand over your left shoulder. We thought if you throw one coin in, you return to Rome, and two coins is for love.

We found out later that it actually is one coin to return to Rome, two to fall in love (with an Italian, whoops!), and three to marry your love. As you’ll see from the video, we did a variation, so hopefully the magic worked as intended.
